A New Era of Remote Astronomy

LakeusuraOnline

LakeusuraOnline is an innovative platform designed to enhance remote astronomy and observation experiences, serving as the digital home for Lakeuden Ursa.

We are currently carrying out two major ongoing development projects:

  1. Modernization of the Telescope Control and Visualization System
  2. The Taivastutka Project (sky monitoring cameras, satellite data reception, and an educational information sign for visitors)

Our mission is to provide advanced tools for telescope control, celestial visualization, and fostering collaboration among astronomy enthusiasts.

1 A New Era of Remote Astronomy

Thanks to support from the Kuortaneen Säästöpankkisäätiö, we are introducing a state-of-the-art telescope control and visualization system. This setup allows users to operate telescopes remotely, access real-time observation data, and experience high-quality astronomical imagery from anywhere.

Telescope Project – Key Features

🔹 Telescope Control System Upgrade
A new control unit enables precise alignment of the telescope with stars and planets, ensuring accurate synchronization with celestial movements.

🔹 Control and Visualization System Update
Upgraded computers, displays, and network infrastructure enhance both operations and real-time visualization.

🔹 Training Simulator
A dedicated simulator provides beginners with safe, hands-on learning before operating the telescope directly.

🔹 Public Astronomy Events
Five public stargazing sessions will allow visitors to explore the observatory and view celestial objects.

🔹 Website Update
The website will offer up-to-date information on observation opportunities and new equipment.

2 The Taivastutka Project

With the support of Liiveri and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, we are launching the Taivastutka Project, which expands our observation capabilities beyond optical astronomy.

Project Goals

  • Sky Cameras: Installation of wide-field cameras for continuous sky monitoring, enabling real-time detection of bright meteors and atmospheric phenomena.
  • Satellite Data Reception: Building a setup for receiving data from weather and Earth observation satellites, providing new opportunities for research and education.
  • Logo Sign: Laege logo sign will be installed on the observatory wall to improve its visibility. Since the observatory is located near an outdoor area with many visitors passing by, the sign will make the site easier to notice and recognize.

The Taivastutka Project will generate valuable data for both amateur and professional astronomy while also providing the public with an engaging, real-time view of the sky.
